The FG, Abuja on Tuesday signed a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with the Government of The United Kingdom (UK) on prisoner exchange arrangements and immigration issues. This is to facilitate the release and transfer of the former Delta Governmor, James Ibori back to Nigeria.
The new MOU would go a long way in fast-tracking the prison reform programme and the prisoner exchange programme between both Countries. This was signed by The Minister of Interior, Mr. Abba Moro, on behalf of the FG Nigeria while Mrs. Mary Calam, UK Director-General, Crime and Policing, Home Affairs signed for UK.
Based on this recent development, most prisons and facilities in the Nigerian Country would be rehabilitated in line with International best practice. It is noted that Lagos, Ilorin, Ibadan and Kuje Prisons in Abuja are actually undergoing upgrades as we speak.
