Federal Government Colleges systems are degrading day by day

Professor Viola Onwuliri, Minister of State for Education, spoke during today’s 2014 Annual General meeting of Principals of Federal Unity Colleges in Ilorin that Federal Government Colleges in the country have lost their glory.

Professor Viola, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. MacJohn Nwaobiala said “You will agree with me that the Federal Government colleges today are a far cry from their glorious past. We can no longer continue to allow them to go on a downward spiral to deterioration”.

The AGM was theme “School Safety in a contemporary society: Issues, Challenges and way forward”
“It is for this reason that the merit-based system of selecting the best students was adopted in 2013/2014 academic session. It is our duty to return these colleges to the models which was the vision of the founding fathers.”
Onwuliri said that to achieve a more conducive and safe learning environment due to recent serious threats to lives and property especially in the North-East geo-political zone, the federal government has started the Safe School Initiative as well as provision of well equipped structures with modern educational gadgets which include e-library, world class laboratories provided by the World Bank Projects STEP-B and more new teaching staff were recently recruited to address the shortage of teachers in the federal unity colleges.
