Charlie K Kondek, 45, The Tarpon Springs Police Officer was shot and killed early Sunday in Florida.The shooting occurred around 3 a.m. at an apartment complex on Grand Boulevard in Tarpon Springs, about 25 miles northwest of Tampa. Police were originally called for a noise ordinance complaint with a suspect banging on residential doors.
When police arrived, the suspect whom the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office has identified as Marco Antonio Parilla Jr., shot Kondek and then attempted to flee in a vehicle but crashed his car into a pole and then a vehicle.
Parilla, 23, is in custody and has been charged with one count of first-degree murder. Deputies describe him as a transient. Kondek died from his injuries at a hospital.

In a statement released Sunday, Florida Gov. Rick Scott said, “We are saddened by the death of Officer Charles Kondek who was killed in the line of duty early this morning. Ann and I pray that God provides comfort to his loved ones and all those who have been affected by this terrible tragedy.”
