Former Inspector-General of Police, M.D. Yusufu Died at 84

Report gathered that former Inspector-General of Police, M.D. Yusufu is dead. He died in his Lagos home yesterday around 7p.m.

He just returned from a Lebanon hospital after a medical checkup. His body was taken to Kaduna for burial this morning.

Yusufu was a gentleman among gentlemen officers. Even when he was in E-Branch of the security organ under the General Yakubu Gowon’s administration, he conducted the affairs with absolute decorum.

He believed that intelligence gattering should be done intelligently – not mindlessly in the way it was done by his successors.

He was a keen lover of Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and  his music. Fela also respected him.

M.D. Yusufu was one of the unrelenting critics of General Sani Abacha. He made attempt to run against him when Abacha wanted to transmute himself into a civilian president.

He was 84 years old.
