Report gathered that the Rivers State Road Traffic Management Authority has petitioned the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hosea Karma, over the alleged killing of its officers on duty.
The Acting Controller of TIMARIV, Mr. Confidence Eke, lamented that two officers of the traffic agency were shot dead by gunmen within a week.
Eke recalled in a copy of the petition obtained by our correspondent on Thursday that one officer of the state-owned traffic agency, John Dimkpa, was killed by a group of gunmen at the Wimpey/Ikwerre Road checkpoint in Port Harcourt on March 26, 2015.
He also narrated how TIMARIV lost another officer, Precious Pepple, to the bullets of gunmen while on traffic control duty at Amadi-Ama in the state capital.
The petition addressed to the CP read, “On Thursday, 26th of March 2015 at about 15.02hrs, one officer, John Dimkpa, posted to Wimpey/Ikwerre Road checkpoint for traffic duties was shot dead by unknown persons.
“The case was promptly incidented at the Kala Police Divisional Headquarters. Also on Wednesday, 1st April, 2015, at the Amadi-Ama Area of the City, one officer, Precious Pepple, was equally killed by unknown persons.
“It is against this background that we write to seek your intervention by causing an in-depth investigation into these killings and also ensure adequate protection of our officers. These measures will go a long way in reposing confidence in our officers in carrying out their duties,” the petition signed by Eke reads in part.
“I am calling on members of the public to see that our officers are protected. If they (Gunmen) continue to kill our officers, it would be difficult for them (TIMARIV officers) to come out on the road and carry out their job.
