Lagos governor-elect, Ambode, Remi Tinubu, others receives Certificate of Return

Report gathered that Lagos State governor-elect, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode; the senator representing Lagos-Central senatorial district, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, and 26 others on Thursday received their certificates of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission.
In the past, the All Progressives Congress won all National Assembly seats in Lagos but in the recent elections, the Peoples Democratic Party won six House of Representatives seats out of the 24 available while the APC won 17 and the Accord Party got one.
The three senatorial seats were won by the APC.
In his address, the INEC’s National Commissioner for Ondo, Lagos and Osun states, Prof. Akinola Salau, commended the people of Lagos State for the peaceful conduct of the elections.
He said, “I will like to use this unique opportunity to commend the people of Lagos State for conducting themselves peacefully and decently during the period of the elections.
“Judging by the tension generated by the keenly contested positions, pessimists had predicted a very rough year for Lagos State in particular and the country in general.”
Salau also said that Thursday’s presentation of certificates marked the end of the electoral process for the winners “unless the court says otherwise.”
He said, “Today, we are gathered here to perform one of the most crucial mandates of the commission. Section 75 sub-section (1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (As Amended) states that a sealed Certificate of Return at an election in a prescribed form shall be issued to every candidate who has won an election under this Act.”
While receiving his certificate, Ambode said Lagos would witness unprecedented growth now that the state is in the same political party as the Federal Government.
