Don’t abandon amnesty programmes, ex-militants urge Buhari

It was gathered that Niger Delta ex-militant leaders on Thursday urged the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to sustain the Presidential Amnesty Programme of the Federal Government.

The ex-freedom fighters under the aegis of Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative, however, pledged to support the incoming administration.

National President, LPCDI, Pastor Reuben Wilson, hailed Buhari for his victory at the poll, but implored him not to abandon the amnesty programme of the Federal Government.

Wilson called on all freedom fighters to support the incoming administration to enable it to fulfill its campaign promises to Nigerians.

Describing the amnesty programme as the only panacea for peace and security in the Niger Delta region, Wilson warned that it should not be toyed with by the incoming administration.

He warned that there would be no peace in the region if the Presidential Amnesty Programme was neglected or abandoned.

He further said if the Niger Delta was neglected as it was in the past, the ex-militants would use all resources at their disposal to stop oil production.

He also praised President Goodluck Jonathan for his good leadership strides in ensuring peace in the country before and after the elections.
