It was gathered that the players and staff of Plateau United of Jos have yet to be paid their salaries over the last seven months, an official of the club has said.
The Media Officer of the club, Albert Dakub, told newsmen on Thursday in Jos, that the situation had affected the club’s programme.
He said, “The situation has made it difficult for the players and management to execute their programmes. United is in dire need of funds as the club’s budget for the 2014/15 season has yet to be approved.
“And the remaining funds from last season have also not been released to the club.”
Dakub said the club was able to travel recently to Aba for the Federation Cup match with the Shooting Stars of Ibadan because an individual provided them funds for the journey.
“From the last budget, N32m has not been released to the club; the club wanted part of the money to enable them to travel for the match, having won the state’s version of the competition. The Commissioner for Sports and the Permanent Secretary have practically relocated to Government House in an effort to prevail on the Commissioner of Finance to release the funds.”
He, however, wondered how the club would cope without adequate funding, following the resumption of the Nigeria National League.
According to him, the situation is likely to put their chances of gaining promotion to Glo Premier League in jeopardy, if nothing is done by the state government.
