The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has lauded Governor Akinwumi Ambode for setting one week aside for an on-going Town Hall Meeting which serves as a necessary feedback mechanism through which government accounts directly to the people and gets the much important feedback from the governed.
The party says that Governor Ambode has shown that his government will not only be accountable but mindful of the needs of the people in various parts of the state through the Town Hall Meetings.
“We salute this initiative of the governor in practicalising the engagement of the people in governance. We see the Town Hall Meeting and its commencement as a needed drive to make governance compliant with the wishes and aspirations of the Nigerian people. We believe that the governor wants to make the people the epicenter of his governance through regular Town Hall Meetings where he renders periodic accounts and gets important feedback from the people.
“We see this as being in consonance with the ideology and belief of our great people which places the interest of the people at the height of governance.
“Lagos APC is elated by the overwhelming turnout at the meetings held so far as we say that this points to the fact that the people have keen interest in how they are governed and overwhelmingly affirm their support for Governor Ambode and our party. We believe that the massive turnout at the Town Hall Meetings show that the people are eager to seize Governor Ambode’s invitation to partner the government to take Lagos to further heights for the good of all Nigerians,” Igbokwe said.
He further stated: “We urge the good people of Lagos not only to continue participating actively in the Town Hall Meetings but also continue coming out with good ideas to help the present government to excel in the task of governing an important state as Lagos.
“While we thank Lagosians for their support so far to Governor Ambode and the APC. We urge them to sustain their support to the government as this will bode well for all of us. We salute the Governor on this laudable initiative and urge him to continue engaging Lagosians for the purpose of getting the best for Lagos and furthering the ends of good and accountable governance.”
