After painful search by the University of Ilorin and a combined rescue team of Kwara State Fire Service and National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA,the remains of the student declared missing after he got drowned Saturday were recovered on Sunday night in the river.
Among the people at the scene to receive the remains of the deceased are the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Technology and Innovation, Professor Gabriel Olatunji, wife of the Vice-Chancellor, Doctor Taye Ambali; the Dean, Students Affairs, Professor Omoteso; the Chief Security Officer of the University, Mr. I. M. Tijani the Director COMSIT, Professor Musa Isiyaku Ahmed, team from the university of Ilorin clinic led by the Chief Medical Officer who represented the Director, Dr. Odunola Adekeye.
Already, the remains of the deceased has been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
Recall that the deceased was declared missing on Saturday after he attended a keep fit exercise organised by the “Man O War” of the university.
The deceased, whose name was given as Onikenku Michael Atunde of the Department of Science Education, was said to have been discovered missing after he reportedly dived into a river located behind the Park and Gardens area of the institution.
Since then, the rescue team of the state fire service and NEMA had been working round the clock until his remains were discovered in the river on Sunday night.
