Leicester striker Jamie Vardy wants to join Arsenal – Giroud

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has revealed that Jamie Vardy wants to join the club.

Giroud netted twice for France in the 3-0 win over Scotland on Saturday night and told Sky Sports News that he’d been told that the Leicester and England forward is keen to move to the Emirates.

“I have been told that Jamie wants to join us and it’s very good news for us. I think we can be complementary and that’s all I can say,” he said. “He’s a fantastic player, so it’s good news for us.”

Vardy scored 24 goals for Leicester in all competitions last season, winning the FWA Footballer of the Year award, and is free to talk to the Gunners after they made a bid above the release clause (reportedly £20 million) in his contract.

A source has told ESPN FC that Vardy is expected to have a medical at the Emirates on Sunday and Giroud insists that he is not scared of the competition.

“As I said in the past I am happy with competition,” he added. “We have always had fantastic strikers at Arsenal and I want the best for this club. Hopefully he is going to help us win this title.

“The boss [Arsene Wenger] wanted to sign at least one or two strikers, so I expected a top striker and I think it will benefit the club and hopefully he is going to score a lot of goals like he did at Leicester.”

  1. Leicester falling apart, or cashing in. Which is it? They’re taking over from Spurs as the Premier’s selling club.

  2. Arsenal transfer rumors every year.. People never learn.. And btw I am an Arsenal fan and honestly i think Vardy does not fit in.. This is not good news

  3. Why should Leicester do everything to win the premier league only to now begin to prepare for a disgrace at the Champions league by selling key players? They should gave left more serious clubs like Man City, Man U or Liverpool to win the league and represent UK well at the Champions League.
