Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has revealed that Jamie Vardy wants to join the club.
Giroud netted twice for France in the 3-0 win over Scotland on Saturday night and told Sky Sports News that he’d been told that the Leicester and England forward is keen to move to the Emirates.
“I have been told that Jamie wants to join us and it’s very good news for us. I think we can be complementary and that’s all I can say,” he said. “He’s a fantastic player, so it’s good news for us.”
Vardy scored 24 goals for Leicester in all competitions last season, winning the FWA Footballer of the Year award, and is free to talk to the Gunners after they made a bid above the release clause (reportedly £20 million) in his contract.
A source has told ESPN FC that Vardy is expected to have a medical at the Emirates on Sunday and Giroud insists that he is not scared of the competition.
“As I said in the past I am happy with competition,” he added. “We have always had fantastic strikers at Arsenal and I want the best for this club. Hopefully he is going to help us win this title.
“The boss [Arsene Wenger] wanted to sign at least one or two strikers, so I expected a top striker and I think it will benefit the club and hopefully he is going to score a lot of goals like he did at Leicester.”
