Chief Tony Anenih, former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) weekend accused Governor Adams Oshiomhole of joining forces with enemies of the party to prevent INEC from recognising Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the party’s governorship candidate.
Chief Anenih, who spoke at the Edo Central Senatorial District zonal flag off of the PDP’s gubernatorial campaign held at Okpujie Primary School, Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State said, “there is nothing Governor Oshiomhole didn’t do to prevent INEC from recognising Pastor Ize-Iyamu.
“Today, the only PDP candidate recognized by INEC in Edo State is Ize-Iyamu. The candidate of Alli-Modu Sheriff has lost; they have rejected him. We have a candidate I call my son and so he is going to take immediately after me.
So, I appeal to the people of Edo State to vote for Ize-Iyamu and it will be my pride, my joy that I attend his swearing-in ceremony as governor”.
The national leader of the PDP also accused the Edo State governor of trying to obliterate the Esan nation of Edo Central Senatorial District, saying “the governor has consistently marginalised the region and its people and any attempt to extinguish Esan race by Oshiomhole will be resisted, we will not allow it; I repeat, we will resist it”.
He, however, vowed that the Esan people would resist their continued domination by Oshiomhole in the September 10 Edo State governorship elections by overwhelmingly voting for the PDP and restore the region’s lost glory
Chief Anenih recalled how Governor Oshiomhole at the start of his administration more than seven years ago refused to pay the counterpart funding of N300 million needed to complete the Ugbalo Waterworks after he had made the Federal government commit the sum of N1.2 billion to the project.
According to him, “Today, there is no water in Esanland. I pleaded with the president then to give us water and he awarded a contract of N1.2 billion for Ugbalo Waterworks. Oshiomhole was asked to pay the counterpart funding of about N300 million. Oshiomhole, up till today has refused to provide the money. That is why the water scheme has not been completed. He does not want us (Esans) to have water.
Also speaking earlier at the palace of the Ojuromi of Uromi Kingdom, HRM Anslem Eidenojie, where 28 Esan traditional rulers gathered, Chief Anenih, described Ize-Iyamu as his son, who he came to introduce as grandson of the Esan traditional rulers.
He said, “He (Ize-Iyamu) is a man that is anointed, he is a man that believes in God. He is a man that has seen the two sides of the coin and he knows what Edo people want,” just as he added that Ize-Iyamu’s running mate, John Yakubu, was the only local government chairman Oshiomhole could not buy.
