Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Dave Umahi, has decried the dirty environment of some schools in the state.
Addressing Principals of boarding schools in the state at Government House, Abakaliki, at the weekend, Umahi, who expressed dismay over the growing dirty environment of schools in the state, said he will not hesitate to sack any Principal whose school is bushy and unkempt.
“I will break the law to ensure that our schools are kept clean. If your school is bushy, you will lose your job and that is a promise.
“In my primary school, I was afraid when I was moving around there about a week ago. I was afraid of being bitten by a snake because of the bushy environment and it is unacceptable.
“We have made ourselves to be terribly lazy in this country. Why should we buy tomatoes for our students, why should we buy vegetables, why should we buy pepper for them and other minor things they can cultivate in their schools? We are being very dishonest to ourselves, we have made ourselves to be terribly lazy and this must stop, we must get all these things in the schools, we must start now to plan for the future of our children. You must key into the agricultural programme of the state government, it is a must,” he said.
He also used the occasion to announce the abolishment of having two school heads in the state school system.
“I will no longer allow Principals for Junior Secondary Schools and Principals for Senior Secondary Schools. The Senior Secondary School Principal will now be Principal in any secondary school in the state.”
