Brazil legend Ronaldinho only used to train once a week because of his party lifestyle, his former team-mate Jerome Leroy has revealed.
Leroy, who played alongside the former Ballon d’Or winner from 2001 to 2003, also claimed that Ronaldinho used to turn up in sunglasses and immediately head to the massage room and fall asleep.
The 36-year-old hasn’t technically retired from football yet but was released from Fluminense, his most recent club, after he was considered too unfit after making just seven appearances for the club.
‘Ronaldinho didn’t train any day of the week and would just turn up on a Friday for the game on Saturday,’ said Jerome Leroy, who played alongside Ronaldinho during his time at PSG.
‘I think he was trying to follow in the steps of Romario, who would also go out every night, but he didn’t have the same success,’ he added.
The Brazilian still managed to win the UEFA Intertoto Cup with the French club despite his part lifestyle and, after impressing so much in Ligue 1, was rewarded with a dream €30million transfer to Spanish giants Barcelona.
‘Players with great talent like [Ronaldinho], they’re a bit crazy,’ added Leroy.
‘Every morning he’d come in with sunglasses. He’d get changed and he’s go straight to the massage bed to sleep.’
Barcelona most recently announced that they have re-signed Ronaldinho as a club ambassador for their project in New York.
