According to reports, the Senate on Wednesday urged the Federal Government to immortalise the 18th Sultan of Sokoto, late Ibrahim Dasuki, by posthumously by naming a monument after him.
Senators also observed a minute’s silence in his honour at plenary, describing his death as a great loss to the country.
The resolutions followed the adoption of a motion raised by Senator Ibrahim Gobir (APC, Sokoto) on the death of the traditional ruler on Monday, November 14, 2016 in Abuja.
Senate’s deputy leader, Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah (APC, Kebbi), seconded the motion, while Senator Jeremiah Useni (PDP, Plateau) paid glowing tributes to the late Sultan.
For his part, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (APC, Kano) said: “This country has lost a great son and has also lost a great leader.”
Late Dasuki was born on December 31, 1923 at Dogon Daji in present-day Sokoto State. He was the 18th Sultan of Sokoto but was deposed in 1996 during the military era of the late General Sani Abacha.
