Luis Enrique knows nothing of Manchester City’s Lionel Messi transfer bid

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique admits he doesn’t know if it’s true that Manchester City are set to launch a transfer bid for Lionel Messi.

The Argentine forward has been repeatedly linked with a big move to the Etihad Stadium in the last year or so, with speculation that Pep Guardiola is keen on a reunion with his former player.

The Spanish tactician took over at City this summer, but was first announced as manager last January, leading to a number of Barcelona players linked with moves to follow him to England.

Still, Enrique appears to have played down any fears that Messi could be on his way to City, saying he doesn’t know about any imminent bid.

Asked for an update on the rumours, the 46-year-old said: ‘I don’t know. I have no idea.

‘Lionel is always ready to play and I’m sure he will be ready to face Celtic. He is 100% and eager to give the best version of himself.’
