Kano NDLEA nabs 3 with 56.6 kg of Meth

Kano State Command of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has intercepted and arrested three men in possession of  56.6 kilogrammes of Methamphetamine substance concealed inside wrapped cartoons in transit to Malaysia through the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, when they were spotted.


Speaking at a press conference in Kano, yesterday, NDLEA Commander, Alhaji  Hamza Umar described the drug as “very dangerous” and said the trio of Joseph Obiajulu  Nwagbo, Jude Nwaigbo and Thankgod Anyika were nabbed on November 19, 2016 in connection with the alleged crime.

He explained that experience had shown that where such drugs could not be ferried out for one reason or the other, the dealers ended up circulating it within the country for local consumption.

Describing the arrest as historical given that Methamphetamine substance had never been seized in the North, Umar said NDLEA had previously discovered seven clandestine laboratories where the substance was produced in Lagos and in the East.

Providing statistics on the arrests, seizures and prosecution from January 2016 till date, the NDLEA boss stated they had seized a total of 37,851.056 kilograms of drugs cutting across cannabis sativa, psychotropic substances, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and ephedrine from suspects.

The NDLEA Commander also announced they arrested a total of 761 suspects for various drug offences and secured a total of 299 convictions in the period under review.

He added that they successfully counseled 542 clients, comprising eight females while appreciating the efforts of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje  of Kano State for the successes recorded by the state command of the agency.
