David Moyes and Louis van Gaal did better jobs than Jose Mourinho after 13 games

Manchester United have less points after 13 games of the Premier League season than they had in the previous three ‘troubled’ campaigns.

Jose Mourinho presided over a 1-1 draw with West Ham on Sunday, taking their tally to 20 points.

The big Mkhitaryan mistake: Lessons Mourinho has learned after Manchester United’s latest setback

Under David Moyes in 2013/14 they had 22 points, the same tally which they had under Louis van Gaal in 2014/15. And last season they were second in the table with 27 points.

Both Moyes and Van Gaal were sacked by the Manchester United hierarchy with results not deemed acceptable.

Points after 13 Premier League games

2013/14 – 22

2014/15 – 22

2015/16 – 27

2016/17 – 20

Mourinho’s fourth league draw in a row at Old Trafford – something that hasn’t happened since 1980 – compounds a below average start for the Special One in Manchester. It will be all the more concerning considering the amount Manchester United spent in the transfer market over the summer, including a world record fee on Paul Pogba.

Manchester United trail league leaders Chelsea by 11 points.
