John Obi Mikel can replicate Yaya Toure’s revival, says Salomon Kalou

Former Chelsea winger has urged his former team-mate John Obi Mikel to be patient for a chance under manager Antonio Conte.

Mikel, who has not featured for Chelsea since leaving the pre-season tour in order to captain the Nigerian team to the Olympic bronze medal, needs to try to replicate Yaya Toure to force himself back into the first team reckoning.

Toure, back in the Manchester City team after ending his feud with manage Pep Guardiola, should be an example to 29-year-old Chelsea man Mikel, according to Kalou.

‘Patience is the key for him right now.  What I learned in this game is that nothing is guaranteed in football, you can find a move fast, or find yourself back in the team,’ Kalou continued.

‘Like Yaya, he played after not playing for several months and came back and scored two goals.

‘Everything can change from today or tomorrow. Just wait for your moment. I said to Yaya [when he was on the bench]: ‘at the end of the day, you have to wait and do your talking on the pitch.’ And that’s what he did!,’ he added.

Mikel has been linked with a surprise move to Manchester United to join former manager Jose Mourinho.
