REVEALED!! Why NCC Directed MTN And Others To Increase Their Internet Data Prices

AN Official of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has given reason behind the directive to the five big telecoms operators in the country to increase their data tariffs from Thursday, December 1.

The reason is reportedly in order to allow small operators and new entrants to acquire market share and operate profitably.

The NCC official who spoke on condition of anonymity on Monday said the regulator came up with the new data regime after some new entrants into the market complained that there was no way they could break even if they operated on same data regime with the likes of MTN, Glo, Etisalat and Airtel, Newsmen reports.

He said NCC yielded to their pressure when last month it notified the operators of the new rate.

Meanwhile, the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, on Tuesday urged the Federal Government not to increase the cost of data to avoid further pressure on mobile telephone users.

  1. Dumb fellows, so they will rather give the new entrants room to make money at the expense of the entire public instead of allowing the market forces to take its natural course. Where did we get these set of idiots from anyway?

  2. It is a lie. Buhari wants more money to steal. He is a Pharaoh out to milk dry the Israelites and to burden Nigerians…he is wicked and has no respect and feelings for the poor masses that voted for him. We leave for God to judge

    • I believe you saw the intelligent response from Phemy above and not this foolish ranting of yours. Please come up with sensible write-ups and not these unintelligent half baked responses. We need sensible and well articulated thoughts here please. Its agreed the thought process of some of the decision makers in government are totally flawed and no positive input is inculcated in most of the decisions they take but you don’t have to come out sounding like them yourself. You are making this serious issue sound mundane.

  3. It is funny to hear this excuse. So any coy that is not able to face competition, they will collect money from the pockets of ignorant Nigerians and give such firms. Is NCC a trade Union for these coys? Insult!

  4. If it’s true that what was stated above are the reasons for the proposed hike on Data prices then we are in serious trouble in this country. If this is the quality of leadership Nigerians are getting from a business organization headed by a professor, of any discipline, we are in a very dip pit as far as our educational standard is concerned. Lord hv mercy!

  5. Remember there is always room for kike back, the bribe the NCC do received from the operators must be returned back one way or the other. They don’t pay for call card nor pay data, they have them for free. Dubious elements.
