Amelia: “Where have you been, I was worried sick” she said the moment Bernard got into the house.
Bernard (Emeka): “I lost my memories, not my senses, I am not in the mood for your nagging” he replied.
Amelia: “I am nagging, really?” she yelled, her veins sticking out of her neck.
Bernard (Emeka): “I have given my life to Christ, and I don’t think this living arrangement will work”
Amelia: “Then let’s get married immediately”
Bernard (Emeka): “We will, after I hear from God”. Amelia could not believe her ears, it was like things just went from bad to worse.
Amelia: “If you don’t want us to live together anymore, I could rent an apartment for you, you can live there till we are married.”
Bernard: “I have to do this on my own. I have to get a job somewhere, also I have to save enough money to get rehabilitation, I cannot continue like this”. Amelia began to sob, she had grown attached to Bernard, and even come to love him, now everything was unraveling before her eyes, and she felt helpless to stop him.
Amelia: “Please don’t leave me, I love you so much. If you leave, I will fall sick and lose the baby”. Bernard sat down on the sofa with a thud, the mention of the baby had weakened him, he knew he was supposed to be there for her throughout the pregnancy. Yet he could not co inhabit, if they were not married.
Bernard (Emeka): “Let’s get married , in a quiet customary court, with only two witnesses, I would like my friend Mr.Bindalo to be there and your sister Annette” Amelia was overjoyed that the marriage would pull through, she didn’t mind that it was not going as planned, to her, the most important thing was getting married to Bernard.
Obianuju woke up in Charles’ arms, she looked around, it was already morning as sunlight peeped through the thick brocade curtains of her bedroom. She smiled when she remembered last night. She had gone to AY LIVE show with Charles, they bought VVIP tickets so they were seated very comfortably, and she had laughed like she had never done since the plane crash.
Comedian: “So a plane containing OBJ, GEJ, PMB, and a little girl was about to crash and there were only three parachutes. OBJ took one and left, PMB took another and left, then the little girl told GEJ to take the remaining one because people like him were still needed to transform Africa, but GEJ told the girl not to worry, that there were two parachutes left because PMB had taken her school bag instead of a parachute” The audience burst into laughter.
Comedian: “Na joke I dey o. Give it up for our able President, President Buhari na you get this hand wey dey up oh”.
After the show, Charles had suggested they go clubbing, it was a new experience for her, as she had never been in a club. So, they had gone to Club Quilox, where they danced till the wee hours of the morning, it felt like she exhaled, letting go of all the pains of the past months. So when they got home, it was no wonder the air was charged, she had initiated kissing, while Charles had been careful not to do something she was not ready to do. But her nerve cells were charged and she wanted more than Charles was offering, the thought of Ohamiri was far away from her mind, Umueke was like another planet. She pulled off her top leaving only her bra, and twirled the top over her head seductively.
Obianuju: “You want this, come and get it”
Charles: “Are you sure about this?”
Obianuju: “Stop talking already” she said and unhooked her bra to reveal full upturned breast. Charles could not control himself any longer; he went in for the kill. He grabbed her up and hooked her legs around his waist, kissing her all the way to the bedroom upstairs.
Charles: “You are the most beautiful woman I ever met” he murmured as he kissed her neck. Obianuju was too stringed for words, she only made purring sounds. Charles touched every part of her that she climaxed many times even before they copulated. When they did, it was like two rocks colliding, it was dangerous and sweet and fast. When they were spent, they fell back on the bed, satisfaction on each face. Obianuju felt guilty because, even with Emeka, who was the love of her life, she did not have such exhilarating sex, but not once did she think of Ohamiri.
That night till the break of dawn, the river which served Umueke turned red, and smelly, all the fishes in the river were dead and floating on the face of the water, it was an eyesore. The people cried, in their masses to the shrine of Ohamiri, there they found the priestess dead. She laid on the floor, her face frozen in terror. The people wept because they were being punished and they didn’t know what they had done. The Ohamiri festival was in a few days, how would they perform it if the priestess was dead.
It was the first day of December, after the king of night she had, Obianuju decided it was time to move forward, it has been a year since Emeka died, she wouldn’t remarry but she would live her life and open her heart to Charles, she deserved to be happy after the troublesome year, she could not wait to be done with 2016.
Charles: “Hey you, come back to bed” he said as she pranced naked across the room to the bathroom.
Obianuju: “I got a company to run, let’s do dinner; I am having lunch with Amelia my girlfriend” she said as she closed the bathroom door. After her bath, she decided that she would dump the black clothes for lighter shades, so she wore an azure body con dress, with a trench coat over it, her shoes were bright lemon colored , and her bag was pink shades.
Charles: “Are you planning to light the city?” he teased.
Obianuju: “I am starting a fashion trend, this may appear on Today’s Woman” they both laughed and Obianuju hurried to her office.
That same day, Amelia was having lunch with Obianuju when Yvonne came to join them, to Obianuju’s consternation.
Yvonne: “Obianuju, can we talk? In private” she said wearing a worried frown.
Obianuju: “I am having lunch with my friend here, so whatsoever you want to say, you can do that here. You love audiences, or is it because she is not a reporter?” She asked sarcastically, the happy mood she started her day with, was fast eroding seeing Yvonne.
Yvonne: “I know I have hurt you forgive me, I am a changed person now, I have found God. What we had was real, I loved you like a sister, but Ulysses was my everything, we had been together for years, I already saw him like a husband and could not wait to marry him, and we were going to be married, but later we started having fights, he was always talking about you and how he wanted to protect you. Your vulnerability hooked him and I believe he surprised himself when he fell in love with you. You had no fault in this, but I was too hurt to see, please forgive me, I want to be friends with you again, I have missed you in my life. I was too hooked on a man to smell the roses, please will you accept me back?”
Amelia: “Obianuju, if she stabbed you once she would stab you again. These bitches aren’t loyal; it is why I do not have girlfriends, except you” she said giving Yvonne the stink eye.
Obianuju: “Come on Yvonne was good to me, she was the reason I wanted to be great, I saw what I wanted to be in her, and those good days were the best, and I want to have those again. I can relate to what you went through, and I forgive you” she said and hugged Yvonne.
Amelia: “We can as well open a bottle of champagne to celebrate this” she said and smirked.
Obianuju; “This is just noon”
Amelia: “It doesn’t matter. Besides I am getting wedded tomorrow, but you girls cannot come because my husband to be wants a quiet thing in court, with just my sister and his friend present”
Obianuju: “Haba, are you marrying somebody’s husband ni? She teased, not knowing that Amelia was indeed getting married to her husband whom she thought was dead.
Amelia: “That one concern you oh, by this time tomorrow, I will be a Mrs.”
Obianuju: “Congratulations oh, I am happy for you. Hope after marriage your craze will reduce” she said and they burst out laughing. Soon Yvonne loosened up and the girls ate and gossiped till they couldn’t walk uprightly.
The next day, Amelia and Bernard were getting married; she had informed Bindalo to stand in as Bernard’s friend. She chose a white pant suit, with gold pumps. She glowed with happiness because; finally she was getting married to Bernard (Emeka). They were driven to the Lagos customary court. Bindalo was outside the court house waiting for Amelia, he was taken aback when Bernard came out of the car.
Bindalo: “Mr, Udo”! He shouted in surprise, Amelia‘s eyes widened because she recognized that surname.
Amelia: “Please, stay with Annette, I have a quick thing to discuss with your friend, it is about the company” she said and pulled Bindalo to the back of the car.
Amelia: “What did you call him, do you know him?” she asked anxiously.
Bindalo: “That is the owner of Mekob, Obianuju’s husband. He is thought dead, and obviously he has lost his memory if he doesn’t remember me. This just got dangerous, what will you do? He is a popular person, I am beyond surprised that someone has not recognized him” Amelia slumped on the hood of the car, tears filled her eyes.
Question: What will Amelia do now that she knows Bernard whom she wants to get married to, is the same Emeka who is Obianuju’s husband and thought dead. Will she let Obianuju know that Emeka is still alive? Or will she push through with her marriage.
