The security personnel continued to bang the door, but Obianuju did not hear them, she was lost in her grief.
Obianuju: “Take me, take me, leave him alone.” She cried, wailing. Soon the door was forced open, and Arab men dressed in uniforms rushed into the room. They looked from Obianuju crying, oblivious of her surrounding, to Charles lying still and obviously dead.
Security men: “what happened here?”He said in Arabic, Obianuju just gazed at them sobbing. She didn’t understand what they were saying, she just looked on helplessly. They began to drag her towards the door.
Obianuju: “Please let me dress up” she said, she was wearing the lingerie she had gone to bed in. Then one of them seeing that she could speak English began to ask her questions in English language.
Man: “Who killed this man?”
Obianuju: “I woke up and he was dead” she said pain choking the words out of her.
Man: “Was he sick?” he asked writing into a small notepad
Obianuju: “He was not sick” she replied.
Man: “Dress up, you will follow us to the precinct for more questions” he said and told everyone to stand outside. Obianuju quickly dressed up in a black jumpsuit, and followed the men, while an ambulance was called for to carry Charles’ dead body to the morgue.
At the precinct, Obianuju wrote a thousand and one statements but still, they kept asking her why she killed Charles. It began to dawn on her that she was in trouble when they started calling the Nigerian embassy. Within a short while, policemen from the embassy came and bundled Obianuju away in a police Jeep. She didn’t know what to cry for, her loss of freedom or the death of Charles.
Immediately he reached Nigeria, Emeka went to his company, Mekob. Everyone cheered as he through the halls, to the office of the CEO. He called a board meeting immediately so he could be brought up to speed. He was told that since everyone thought he was dead, his will had been read and Obianuju made CEO, they also told of the court case between Obianuju and his own family, and how Obianuju settled it. When he saw the company records, he was proud; he smiled in spite of the raging war in his heart.
Emeka: “I knew you had it in you, Obim. I do not know what trials we will go through hitherto, but I know we will overcome by the grace of God” he said aloud, looking around the big office, it still had Obianuju’s presence in it, her perfume was all over the place, he picked up a gold bracelet from the table where Obianuju had kept it.
Emeka: ”I will find a way for us, with God, all things are possible.” he said. Ulysses heard, his friend whom everyone thought was dead was back to the company. He rushed to Mekob, and was not the least surprised by the multitude of reporters camped out the gate. He bustled through the crowd, shoving people as he went till he got to the gate. He was escorted in by security personnel, as they already knew him at the company. He ran to the office of the CEO, unable to control his excitement, when he opened the door and saw Emeka, he rushed and pulled him into a bear hug, for he was a burly man.
Ulysses: “I do not care to know how you are alive, I am just happy I can see you again, brother” he hugged him again as the tears began to fall.
Emeka: “Thank you brother, I am happy to be alive, and with my memories, those few months without knowing who I am, were the worst days of my life, except when Obianuju was in trouble”
Ulysses: “Speaking of which, where is she?”
Emeka: “The last time I saw her was in Dubai, she was getting married to a man” he said with a frown.
Ulysses: “How did you end up married? While everyone were here mourning you.
Emeka: “I will tell my story, not now but later. I might even make a book out of it. I want you to give your life to God because he never fails. God loves us so much and he said he will bring us to our expected end. Therefore, rely on him and he will make everything beautiful in His time”. Ulysses looked at him with surprise; his friend was a changed man.
Emeka started going for bible study classes, he knew he had to arm himself with the word of God because; he and Obianuju were not wrestling with flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers. One day in a revival service, he was called out for prayers.
Pastor: “I see a man here; you are fighting a spiritual warfare with a familiar spirit, mammy water spirit. God is saying, do not fret, he has taken over the battle. Just rejoice and give praises because it is finished, your battles are over” Emeka jumped out to the altar shouting “Halleluyah, Amen”.
Emeka while at the office falls asleep, and appeared before him in a flash , Ohamiri. The vision happened quickly and remained just long enough for him to notice and before it vanished.
Ohamiri: Here comes my next prey. Welcome to my world, Emeka. You are next!
Emeka: Who are thou? What do you want from me?
Ohamiri: I am Ohamiri, you took away from me my Slave, Obianuju. I am here for payback. You shall die. Today is your scheduled D-day
Emeka: Me? God forbid! Have you forgotten, the book of Psalm 118 Vs 17 says “I Shall not die but leave so I shall continue declaring His good works”. Emeka stood up sharly. Making some defensive prayers
“Everlasting God of host, He that fights for Himself. The God of calling, the God of Covenant. Immortal God. The Invincible God. He that resides in a powerful palace. The Ancient of days. The greatest Leader and the Great One in Authority. The Commander-In-Chief, The Prince of Prince, Jesus my Saviour. The Only God that conquered death in Victory. The only God that conquered death and grave. I am here in the name of Jesus. Now I speak as an oracle of God, I send down thunderous FIRE from Heaven! I command this evil spirit, receive FIRE from above!
Ohamiri: What? What kind of language is that? Where did you learn all these from?
Emeka: I am a servant of God, the servant that preaches the death and resurrection of JESUS CHRIST without adding anything to it. I stand here today on the rock of JESUS in a calling that is full of Mercy and Grace. Listen to me Ohamiri or whatever you call yourself, it is written that the strangers shall fade away and be afraid out of their close places.
Ohamiri: Our father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Who dares look down on your words? Evangelist Emeka, that authority was meant for the strangers. I am not stranger in the life of Obianuju, but inhabitant, so I cannot leave. Obianuju and her ancestors, forefathers have signed covenant with me Ohamiri and she cannot leave nowhere. She is my slave. Nothing, nobody will take her away from me. She’s mine for ever.
Emeka: Listen to me, I and Obianuju are the temple of the Lord, Anyone trying to defile the temple of the Lord shall be destroyed. Today, you this spirit of waste, spirit of mammy water, the thunderous fire of God shall consume you.
Ohamiri: Don’t dare make any mistakes. Though your words are true and truly you want to use a great authority but that was meant for the strangers like I said earlier. If the fire of destruction is to come down, Obianuju will be the first victim to experience it. Because, She has defiles the temple of God. She has not even accepted JESUS wholeheartedly. Who are you to tell me or preach to me about salvation? If I leave now, I shall be back with strong force
Emeka: By the great authority, fire of the holy ghost destroy every evil spirit in Jesus Mighty Name.
At the sound of the name “Jesus”, Ohamiri disappeared into thin air, Emeka was taken aback.
At the embassy, Obianuju was recognized, but their hands were tied, the Arabs had sent a liaison to make sure the investigation was thorough. She was put through rigorous questioning, and was deprived food and water.
Obianuju: “Please I am thirsty, give me water to drink” she pleaded on the third day after she was taken from the hotel.
Detective: “You will not have water until you tell us what we want to hear. This case is an open and close one, you were in the room with your fiancé and we found him dead. The surveillance cameras saw no one entering the room, so no one but you were in that room. Why did you kill him”
Obianuju: “I did not kill Charles, I could never hurt anyone”
Detective: “If you did not kill him, who did?”
Obianuju: “Ohamiri killed him, she killed Charles” she broke down into sobs
Detective: “Who is Ohamiri?” the detective asked slyly, he didn’t believe a word she was saying. He was beyond convinced that Obianuju killed Charles, what was puzzling him was the reason, he needed a motive to build his case. He told himself that it was not in his purview, he would transfer the case to Nigeria, the prosecutor would come up with any motive he likes, and his work was done. When Obianuju did not answer, he sighed and went away. He went to process her papers to be deported to Nigeria and straight to prison to await trial.
Within hours, Obianuju was processed and flown to Nigeria in a military jet, her clothes had been taken from her, she was dressed in green prison garb, her hair was in a rough ponytail, her face stained with grit, her eyes swollen from all the crying she had been doing these past days. At the airport, the press men and women were waiting for her with their cameras, they flashed their cameras left and right, the minute she alighted from the plane flanked by two military men. It was such a bitter tale, she had gone to Dubai for her wedding, and media houses paid huge sums to cover the wedding and their stay in Dubai, only the highest bidder was given the privilege to cover the event, but here she was, coming into the country as a prisoner, everyone had inclusive rights to her shame, and sorrow. What a life!
Emeka was in the board room with his directors, they were to cast their votes on an issue raised by Emeka, the CEO. He remembered he had seen Mr. Bindalo at his wedding to Amelia, he knew him and never said a word, obviously he kept quiet as a favor to Amelia, he had found out that they were lovers, Bindalo agreed to stand in as Emeka’s friend when he knew they weren’t friends but business associates. So Emeka had raised a motion to remove him as head of Auditing.
Emeka: “How can we allow such a dishonest person be the head of auditing, I am raising a motion to relieve him of his duties, if you support say yes, if you are against say nay” The number of yes and nays were counted, it was 5 yes, and 4 nays, and Mr. Bindalo was fired from his position.
Bindalo: “You will regret what you have done” he said and left the board room. After he left, the executive secretary came and whispered into Emeka’s ears. She told him that Obianuju was in the news and had been arrested for the murder of Charles Ikolo.
Emeka: “Obianuju will never murder anyone, she cannot hurt a fly” he said and went to his office to call his lawyer.
Emeka went with his lawyer to Kirikiri prison where Obianuju had been taken to, there Obianuju was brought out to meet him. She ran and embraced him, crying with a broken heart.
Obianuju: “Ohamiri has made my life unbearable, she killed Charles, she would have killed me if I had not used a bible passage I heard on television. But no one believes me.” She cried.
Emeka: “Do not be afraid, God says the battle belongs to him, Ohamiri will be put to shame as long as the Lord lives, keep faith Obim” he said and held her hand, she raised her hand and caressed his face.
Obianuju: “So you are really alive, Emeka you are not dead, what happened?”
Emeka: “Do not think about that, when all is over, you will be the first to hear my story, and also I will share it with the whole world, because, my life is a testimony. Come to Christ and see him turn things around for you”
Warden: “Time up” he said and dragged Obianuju away.
Emeka: “She did not kill Mr. Ikolo, but we cannot prove the supernatural, what we will do is find a way to clear her name, but first I want her out of this hellhole now” he said to his lawyer.
Lawyer: “It will be hard, but we can have a bail hearing, if she is granted she can be free until the trial is over”
Emeka: “Get to it immediately, she must be out of here before the end of today”
With Emeka’s connection, a bail hearing was set; Obianuju was brought into the court room with handcuffs.
Judge:”This is not a trial, this is just to ascertain if she is eligible for bail. Present your case” The female judge said.
Prosecutor: “Murder is capital offense, and Mrs. Udo is a flight risk, she has the means and the connection, we cannot allow her be bailed for these reasons, my Lord”
Defense Lawyer: “My client has been through many life changing experiences, her husband who was thought dead has just been found alive, she is going through psychological pain that should not be aggravated imprisoning her without trial. Besides, she has a clean record, never been in the system, she has her husband ready to vouch for her, she deserves to be bailed, my Lord”
Judge: “Here is my judgement…”
Question: Will Obianuju remain in prison, what will be the outcome of the trial, will she sentenced for the murder of Charles?
