Fellaini: This is the big difference between Mourinho and Van Gaal

Marouane Fellaini believes Louis van Gaal is a much stricter manager than Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese coach replaced the Dutchman at Old Trafford in the summer after Manchester United finished outside the top four.

Mourinho has since guided United to the semi-finals of the EFL Cup, although their league form has been patchy so far with the club lying in sixth.

But Fellaini is confident he’s the right man for the job and believes his less strict approach can be beneficial.

‘I think the manager is the right manager, he has a lot of experience,’ Fellaini told Soccer AM.

‘The victories will come I’m sure.

‘Van Gaal is more strict. Mourinho is strict but not like Van Gaal. Mourinho is funny.

‘He [Van Gaal] had his philosophy, you know, everyone is different.’

Fellaini also revealed a phone call Mourinho made to him in the summer where he assured him his future was at Old Trafford.

‘He’s told me to play my game,’ he added.

‘He knows what I can do.

‘He called me during the Euros and told me that I won’t move. That gave me a lot of confidence.’
