Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has declared his side “good enough” to be fighting at the top of the Premier League table after joking their title hopes were over.
The Reds have only taken one point from the last two games in the league which puts them in third place and six points behind league leaders Chelsea.
The last two results have led to pundits doubt if they have a good enough defence to win the league this season but Klopp thinks it’s too early to tell what will happen this campaign.
“It’s over,” Klopp joked during a press conference on Monday. “I think it makes absolutely no sense to count the points between you and the other teams at this stage of the season.”
“Around in the last 10 games you need to be in a position to fight for something. We are good enough to be fighting at the top. Only the good teams can fight for it. If the gap is getting bigger because of our results, it’s our fault. We don’t think about the distance of the two teams.
“It’s all good in the moment. Things like the last two games happen. We are not surprised things like this happen, especially West Ham. Only we can sort it, that’s all.”
