Jose Mourinho has revealed that Sam Johnstone will be the only Manchester United player to be sent out on loan in the January transfer window, ending speculation surrounding Anthony Martial’s future at Old Trafford.
Earlier this week, Martial’s agent revealed that the forward has received an offer to join Sevilla.
Marcus Rashford has also been linked with a move to West Ham, although Slaven Bilic has since insisted that the prospect of signing the 19-year-old, even on a temporary deal, is out of the question.
And Mourinho insists Johnstone, who is United’s third-choice goalkeeper this season, will be the only player leaving on loan to gain more first-team experience.
‘Johnstone is the only player that I allow to go on loan as he doesn’t play one single minute.
‘We have a young keeper in Joel [Pereira], who played many minutes in the last six months.
‘For the development of both, Joel played six months in the Portuguese Premier League [with Belenenses] and now it is time for Sam to play six months. That is the only loan move we are going to do.’
