Kemi: Yes o’course

Alhaji: ‘’Huh! He needs to work on a special assignment for me, the story of the dead in Olobiri. Whereas, I know he has mien for his job which is not mundane to other journalists who have been doing the same job for decades. I prefer him because of his differing story on his column. And, he is the only journalist capable of doing the job due to his accolades’’

Kemi sighed

Alhaji: “What!’’

Kemi: ‘’ I don’t want him to come back from the assignment’’

Alhaji looked at her fiercely

Alhaji: ‘’Why?’’

Kemi: ‘’Buhari predecessor gave him appointment but he refused. He’s just too arrogant, that alone is killing him. The presidency gave him the appointment due to the recent article he published with Punch Newspaper, with title: The Heartland of the Creek.

Alhaji: ‘’Are you serious? But I don’t know about that because I have been busy with lot of tasks in the government recently’’

Kemi: ‘’ You might not know as he wishes to die and be buried as a pauper, who has not plan leaving behind something to depend on for his children. I guess, he refuses to die as a wealthy man over a useless passion’’

Alhaji: ‘’ He may be right, but does he know you are agent?’’

Kemi: ‘’ No’’

Alhaji: ‘’ why?’’

Kemi: ‘’ I don’t disclose my identity to strangers’’

Alhaji laughed uncontrollably, that almost cracked his ribs

Alhaji: ‘’ Is he not your husband?’’

Kemi: ‘’ He is my spouse. I love him because of his sex tactics’’

Alhaji: ‘’ Wow! Don’t you think that is irrational?’’

Kemi: “What is irrational about that? Don’t let me see myself as unfair person’’

Alhaji: ‘’ I know he loves you as infant loves its mother breast. You better be sincere with him and live happily ever, remember the current Nigerian recession seems not smiling and making real men scarce in the market”

She chuckled and gave him a coarse response

Kemi: ‘’ I just want him gone’’

Alhaji called Kunle in her presence

Kunle: ‘’Hello, who are you?’’

Alhaji: ‘’I’m honourable minister of environment’’

Kunle: ‘’ How can I be of help?’’

Alhaji: ‘’ You know, since Ms. Amina Mohammed left her United Nation position, I have been the one in charge of her responsibilities’’

Kunle: ‘’ Good. Tell me what you called me for?’’

Alhaji: ‘’ I know you are intrepid journalist. I read your articles on an online news”

Kunle: ‘’Which of the articles?’’

Alhaji: ‘’ The Heartland of the creek. The article was meticulously written, filled with captivating details’’’

Kunle: ‘’ Thanks’’

Alhaji: ‘’ I should call you soon, please watchout for my call’’

Kemi frowned at him after dropping the call; She broke the silence after few minutes…

Kemi: ‘’ You talk too much Alhaji, I know him every well, Kunle is this kinda guy that always want to do things his own way. He is adamant. I just want him gone’’

Alhaji: ‘’ You have to work for me, let me know his schedule and what intention he has toward me because I know he will inform you when you get home’’

Kemi: ‘’ Don’t worry, and have you forgotten that is my job. I will persuade him to come and he will die like that of a yuletide chicken. He is ludicrous sometimes but I’ll try know his mind. He is not manful enough to hide such away from me. All he does is journalism. He is prowess when it comes to his job but I’ll teach him investigative relationship’’

Alhaji: ‘’What do you mean by investigative relationship?’’

She laughed boisterously

Kemi: ‘’That concept is meant for women, not for men’’

Alhaji: ‘’ You must be kidding’’

Kemi: ‘’ Ask your wife about investigative relationship. It’s a kind of liberal theory being propagated from the angle of feminism. Yes. Ladies who believe in feminism do more of investigative relationship. They investigate their spouses and use that as weak point.’’

Alhaji: ‘’ You are funny’’

Kemi: ‘’ Funny indeed when I’m not a stand up comedienne. Well, i’m not Adaku girl’’

Alhaji: ‘’ Who is Adaku? You mean your house help?’’

Kemi: ‘’Alhaji, tell me what you do with your leisure time that makes you not knowing Adaku. Adaku can eat Abuja Zuma rock if given the privilege. Since I was born, She’s still second to none. As a matter of fact, she won the Olympic medal for food’’

Alhaji: ‘’ You mean this Adaku?’’

Kemi: ‘’Yes. But please find time, stay with your family and watch TV with them – A Quality Time’’

Alhaji: ‘’ I watched TV when I brought it. But been busy since i was appointed this ministerial position’’

Kemi: ‘’ Too much stress sends you to the grave early. You better find time spend Quality time with your family, afterall, TV was manufactured for human pleasure, not otherwise”’

Alhaji: ‘’ Thank you physician Kemi’’

Kemi looked at him contemptuously

Kemi: ‘’I’m not saying you shouldn’t watch the news but TV programme with humour makes the body active. I swear, that’s what I hate most about Kunle’’

Alhaji had gruff agreement with what she had said. He looked at her with stern. Gulped the Hennessy drink with astonishment.

Alhaji: ‘’ Now, I agree with you, but tell me who is Adaku?’’

Kemi: ‘’ Adaku is a character in a local TV serial’’

Alhaji: ‘’ Ladies are jobless; and that Joblessness make them sit to watch sitcom’’

Kemi: ‘’ For your information, It is a normal Television serial, not sitcom. But, wait a minute, how about men searching around early in the morning for news at newspaper stand? Are they not jobless?

Alhaji laughed

Alhaji: They are not jobless. All they do is to follow the rich Nigerians’ stories’’

Kemi: ‘’Imagine!’’

Alhaji: ‘’ Imagine what?

Kemi: ‘’And you say they are not jobless. Come to Oshodi around 7am you will see them reading free newspaper. They even have association’’

Alhaji: ‘’ What is the association?’’

Kemi: ‘’FRA’’

Alhaji: ‘’ That is an acronym’’

Kemi: ‘’Yes—Free Reader Association’’

Alhaji couldn’t utter further words

They both left the Ikoyi club. She took next available bus to Obalende, immersed herself to commuters who were going toward her destination. Bid a taxi to Ojota. When the car got to Ojota, toward Ogudu, she alighted and headed straight to market. While crossing the road with less attention, she was hit by an Okada Rider, that made Kemi cried for help rhythmically.

Kemi: ‘’Help! Help! Help!’’

Two men rushed at her, assisted her to the nearest hospital, not too far to Ramat estate

Doctor: ‘’ Call me her family?’’

Kemi looked at the doctor with discreetness

Kemi: ‘’ Here’s my hubby’s digit’’

Doctor: ‘’ Okay, I think that will be better’’

The doctor, noosed the stethoscope on his neck, and he called

Doctor: ‘’Hello, is this Mr Kunle Amudidun?’’

Kunle: ‘’ Yes!’’

Doctor: ‘’ Your wife just had an accident’’

Kunle: May i know who’s calling?
