Senator Effiong dumps PDP, joins APC

Senator Nelson Effiong representing Akwa Ibom South, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the  ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Sen. Effiong disclosed his defection to the ruling party on the floor of the red chambers at today’s plenary.

Effiong, who cited party crisis as his reason for defection, said,“Over the past one year this party has disintegrated; because of the crisis in the party, I have decided to resign from the PDP and join the APC.”

In his reaction, the senate Minority leader, Godswill Akpabio, frowned at the decision, saying the lawmaker has automatically lost his senate seat because he became a senator under the platform of the PDP.

‎Akpabio warned that the party will contend Effiong’s continued stay in the senate in court.

Recall that a senator from Ondo south, Omoyele Omogunwa, had in November 2016, defected from the PDP to the APC.

  1. It is a pity cos only the guilty are afraid. Those of u house members who are decamping from PDP to APC so as not to be probed will soon meet their water loo. There is nothing hidden under the sun. Whether u decamp or not, ur sins will find u.

  2. Please show me any one person who has been charged for corruption and because he decamped to the ruling party, the charges where dropped. We should always try and make informed comments on these platform, saying this because I have noticed that the quality of discourse is actually going down, may be the reason some articulate commentators no longer feature here. Really do not see anything wrong in somebody in a house with cracked walls and who despite his efforts to save the house from falling, the house is still threatening to fall and you expect the person to remain in that doomed house, I do not expect a rational person to remain in that house!
