Manchester United forward, Anthony Martial, has explained that he is suffering from bad form this season, because he played a lot last year.
Martial has cut a frustrated figure at times this season, as he has had to settle for a place on the bench under Jose Mourinho.
“It is just because last year I played a lot, I had the possibility to play back-to-back games. Now I enjoy playing and we have to wait,” he told a news conference ahead of Wednesday’s Europa League clash against St Etienne.
“I work very hard and I am surrounded by great players, I try to learn and hopefully next season will be better. Indeed I started as a centre-forward but even in Monaco I was a winger. As long as I’m on the pitch I’m happy.”
Monaco was even linked with a loan move away from Old Trafford in January, but he insists he is happy at United and wants to stay for a long time.
“I love this club, I love Manchester United,” he added.
“I love the Manchester United fans, they give me a lot and I really enjoy having them backing me. I try to be as good as possible to make them happy, to satisfy them.
“What I want is to stay at this club for as long as possible.”
