According to reports, the Deputy Chairman of the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Akure Branch in Ado Ekiti, Mr. Ojo Ogunsakin, has been killed by a member of the union over internal crisis within the union.
Ogunsakin died on Sunday having allegedly sustained head injuries inflicted on him by a unit chairman of the branch popularly called Adeco.
Ogunsakin’s death had prompted a violent protest by his loyalists, which culminated in the shutting down of the motor park by the Police Commissioner, Mr. Abdullah Chafe, and the drafting of armed policemen to man the park.
Members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) who were within the premises were not allowed entry into the motorpark.
However, the remains of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, while the culprit has been arrested and detained at the police headquarters in Ado Ekiti.
