A protest was carried out in kwara state by Some beneficiaries of the N-Power Pogramme over non-payment of their allowance since they took up their employment five months ago.
The beneficiaries lamented that this had been the case even as they had been made to go through much stress over verification of names, account numbers, and BVN numbers.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin yesterday, a spokesman for the group, Suleiman Olatunji, said that those affected by the development had undertaken manual correction of the alleged anomalies in their registration about four times without any positive development.
Some of us did physical verification at the governor’s office and the NOA. They were always saying there was one mistake or the other and for about four times now we have been doing correction. N-Power asked some of us to send our phone numbers and they still said no verification,” Olatunji said.
In his reaction, the state Focal Person for the programme, Elder Ayobolu Samuel, said, “When we started in December, 5539 were deployed to Kwara but only 5021 were cleared. We forwarded their names to Abuja and when the January stipend was to be paid, over 2,000 names were missing. So we went back to the drawing board to verify again and when February stipend was paid, the figure reduced to 1,508 and in March it reduced to 748.
So when these ones came yesterday, we told them to go and check from the list we pasted why they could not be paid. For some it was because they were operating dormant account and the banks returned their money. For some it was because they submitted different names, some because their BVN number didn’t match their account details. So, it is not about protesting but going to the bank for instance and correcting the error and forwarding same to the N-Power people in Abuja,” he said.
