Onetime president, Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday refused to speak on the state of the nation, saying he will do so at another time.
He was a guest at the conferment of a chieftaincy title of Mayegun of Ibadan on former Secretary to the Government of Oyo State, Olayiwla Olakojo at the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadan.
After addressing the Olubadan and guests at the event, Obasanjo told journalists that he was only in Ibadan to celebrate with Olakojo.
He said, “Journalists, you have heard what I have to say today. I will not talk on any (national) issue today. If you have any question (on the state of the nation) I will not talk about it today. We are here for the conferment of chieftaincy title before the Olubadan of Ibadan land. If you have something to ask about Nigeria, come to where I am on another day.”
He later left the palace with former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, for the house of Lakojo.
At the home of Lakojo, Obasanjo, the host, Oyinlola, Oyewole Fasawe and a few other individuals held a closed-door meeting.
After the meeting, journalists who waited at the door to get the former president to speak were disappointed as he preferred to dance to the gospel song rendered by a musical band.
Speaking on the title, Lakojo said, “I feel good because of the honour. The Olubadan actually wanted to give it to Obasanjo but he said he already has titles from many parts of Nigeria. He then recommended me. He should have travelled to Italy today (Saturday) but he had to be here because of me. That is why I am always loyal to him.”
