Jose Mourinho sets historic record with Manchester Utd’s Europa League win

Jose Mourinho has become the first manager to win the Europa League and the Champions League twice after Manchester United beat Ajax in Wednesday’s final.

Goals in each half from Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan sealed a 2-0 win at the Friends Arena in Stockholm and has booked United’s place in next season’s Champions League.

The victory now means Mourinho has made history by becoming the only manager to win the Europa League and the Champions League on two separates occasion each.

The United manager won the UEFA Cup with Porto in 2003 before winning the Champions League with the Portuguese club the following year.

Interestingly, Rafa Benitez is the closest manager to matching Mourinho’s record.

The Spaniard needs only one more win in the Champions League, having already won the UEFA Cup/Europa League on two occasions with Valencia and Chelsea.
