Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly received support from an unlikely source as he deals with allegations of avoiding tax on his image rights.
Spanish publication Diariogol report that Barcelona forward Neymar – who faced similar charges over image rights earlier this year – has been chatting to Ronaldo via WhatsApp, casting aside the club rivalry to offer his support in this difficult time.
Ronaldo was reportedly keen on a move back to the Premier League after not receiving the support he expected over the news from his club.
But Real president Florentino Perez has since come out with a statement backing his star man, saying:
“Cristiano has a contract and he is a Real Madrid player. The last time that I talked with Cristiano was in Cardiff, after the game. What happened with the tax authorities was after the game.
“Life throws up unexpected situations but one has to take them on and find a solution. This is all very strange. Cristiano is a good guy, I will have to talk with Cristiano and see what’s happening.”
For the time-being Cristiano appears to be trying his best to ignore the situation and focus on the football at hand – his campaign with Portugal at the Confederations Cup.
