The only African player to win Ballon d’Or, George Tawlon Manneh Oppong Ousman Weah, has won Liberia’s Presidential election.
The retired professional footballer turned politician succeeds President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, in a contest that completes the country’s first democratic transition of power in more than 70 years.
Legendary Football icon and the only African player to win World Best footballer of the year (Ballon d’Or) George Weah just became the new President of Liberia. He is to succeed Elen Johnson Sirleaf.
Mr. Weah defeated his closest rival, Joseph Boakai who is also the incumbent Vice President. Others include longtime opposition figure Charles Brumskine and former Coca-Cola executive Alexander Cummings.
