Pastor Bakare playing with God’s name – CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has reacted to the declaration made by the founder of General Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, that God has told him to run for the 2019 presidential election.

While addressing his congregation during the New Year’s Eve service at the Latter Rain Assembly in the Ogba area of Lagos State, the pastor cum politician had revealed that God wants him to run despite his plan to quit politics for good.

In 2011, Pastor Bakare, was picked as the running mate of the current President Muhammadu Buhari, on the platform of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC.

Buhari and Bakare lost the presidential election to former President, Goodluck Jonathan.

Speaking through its Secretary General, Rev. Musa Asake, CAN said some people were out to play with the name of God with their declaration, wondering why Bakare failed the first time he made same declaration in 2011.

Rev. Asake said God does not lie, adding that people should be stoned when such declarations made in the name of God fail to materialize.

He told Vanguard, “Let’s wait to see. If God has ordained him to be the president, fine, it’s next year, so let’s wait and see. I don’t know how they read their bible.

“The Bible is very clear. Anybody who says he’s a prophet and prophesies and it doesn’t come to pass, the Bible stated that you take him out of the city and stone him.

“These people that are just making a name and playing with God’s name, they don’t know that when their end begins to crumble, they will have no place to stay.

“It was the same God that asked him to run with Muhammadu Buhari in 2011 and they didn’t win, so, why then will he declare that God sent him? Don’t let me think his God is different from the God we worship. That’s not my God.

“There’s nowhere my God has said anything and it failed. These people must be serving a small letter god. God asked him to run with Buhari and that they were going to make it, finally he did not. Buhari later picked another pastor, Yemi Osinbajo.

“Maybe he was wishing they would have picked him but it was the same God that was misdirecting him. And now God is bringing him back again so we will wait to see that God again next year God willing.”

  1. Outrageous! Why this division in the body of Christ? I read Pst Bakare’s declaration, be never said 1019. He says he wanted to quit politics but God says no & when he will contest the presidency he does not know. I hope that posting is the personal response of the secretary & not of CAN as a body otherwise it is shameful

  2. I think the secretary’s comment is not necessary. Pastor Bakare spoke not as a CAN representative but as a man of God and if the secretary has reservations about what he said, this is not the appropriate platform to vent his disapproval. I want to believe that he is not talking on behalf of CAN but rather his personal opinion which is his right to express.

  3. Why this so much hatred for Pastor Bakare? You people called CAN did not react this same way when Chris Okotie repeatedly said it was God who instructed him to run, and he failed in all his attempts or neither have come out to show the same condemnation towards numerous fake Pastors whose predictions have not come to pass. Bakare’s problem with you people is simply because he accepted to run with Buhari whom you hate with passion in 2011. You people are not been fair to Pastor Bakare at all
