Obasanjo endorses Atiku to defeat Buhari in 2019 – reports

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday endorsed the presidential ambition of his former deputy, Atiku Abubakar.

Obasanjo is currently in a meeting with Atiku, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate and others in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

In his opening remarks, Obasanjo declared that Atiku will defeat the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019.

The former leader had in recent months been critical of Buhari and his government. He had also advised Buhari not to run again.

A source at the meeting still ongoing quoted Obasanjo as saying: “Let me start by congratulating the President-to-be, Atiku Abubakar”.

Obasanjo said he believed Atiku will do a good job as a president.

In attendance are outspoken clerics, Bishop David Oyedepo, Bishop Matthew Kukah and Sheikh Ahmed Gumi.

Also at the meeting are leader of apex Yoruba group, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, ex PDP deputy national chairman, Bode George, Senator Murray Ben-Bruce, ex Cross River Governor, Liyel Imoke, ex-Minister, Osita Chidoka, among many others.

  1. Nigerians have moved passed Olusegun Obasanjo long time ago. The results of the 2019 general elections will confirm his irrelevance in the Nigerian political space and be shut up permanently.

    • Ed, when Obasanjo endorsed Buhari in 2015, you did not make this statement. So, as at then, Obasanjo was still relevant in Political space, right? You better sit up my friend.
