MANCHESTER UNITED are set to hand a new contract to Robin Van Persie. Van Persie joined the Red Devils two years ago from Premier League rivals Arsenal, and his goal-scoring exploits have seen him become a firm favourite with the Old Trafford faithful.
And according to the Daily Star, United chiefs are currently preparing a new deal that would extend Van Persie’s current contract to 2018. They are ready to offer the Dutch striker, 31, a two-year extension to his current deal, which is up at the end of next season.
They also want to protect their original £22m investment in Van Persie, as they believe plenty of clubs would want him if he was out of contract and available on a free transfer.
