Taraba Assembly Speaker, Josiah Kente resigns

A new speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly has been elected after the resignation of the former. The Speaker of assembly, Josiah Kente, resigned his position Monday. Mark Useni was elected as replacement.

Mr. Kente was elected speaker in November 2013, following the death of his predecessor, Haruna Tsokwa. Taraba State has seen a number of changes in its political leadership in the last one week since the removal of the former acting governor, Garba Umar, by the Supreme Court. Mr. Umar was replaced by Abubakar Danladi, a former deputy governor.

Mr. Kente told journalists on Monday in Jalingo that he has forwarded his resignation letter to the Clerk of the assembly. He said he took the decision in the interest of peace in the state.
