Report gathered that a Police officer and three others died while 15 others were injured on Wednesday in two auto crashes in Ganjuwa and Toro Local Government Areas of Bauchi State.
The Policeman, Abel Afarayo, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, was, until his death, the Commanding Officer, Police Special Protection Unit, Nasarawa State Police Command.
Bauchi State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, in a statement in Bauchi, on Thursday, said the deceased died on his way to Gombe for his wedding.
He said, “On the 1/4/2015 (Wednesday), at about 14.45hrs (2.45pm), there was a fatal motor vehicle accident at Miya Berkete, along Bauchi-Jos Road in Toro LGA of Bauchi State.
“The accident occurred when a green Volkswagen Passat vehicle with number plate KTN 781 PG, driven by one Zubairu Alhassan, male, (20), of Toro LGA, had a head on collision with a green Toyota Camry, marked PB 983 AA, driven by one DSP Abel Afarayo, commanding officer, police special protection unit, Nasarawa State Command (now
late), on his way to Billiri Town in Gombe State for his wedding ceremony.
“As a result, both drivers died on the spot while, six others, including Cpl Danladi Mamman, also attached to SPU Nasarawa, sustained varying degrees of injuries.”
Mohammed said a police patrol team, attached to Toro Division, rushed the victims to the Toro General Hospital for medical attention and post-mortem examination.
In a related development, the PPRO added that two people were killed while nine others sustained varying degrees of injuries when a 24-year-old driver ran his vehicle into a jubilant crowd in Soro town.
