Amaechi, Ben Bruce Murray in epic fight on Twitter

Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, and Senator Ben Bruce, on Sunday took their political battle to the social media.

They both bombed one another with series on tweets about the current government. The war of words broke out after Japhet Omojuwa tweeted that Ben Bruce should not be taken seriously with his tweets.

“The reason I will NEVER take people like Ben Bruce serious is because when they saw a leader (GEJ) do wrong, they kept quiet. Don’t be Bruce,” he said.

In a swift response, the Bayelsa Senator condemned the recent comments credited to President Muhammadu Buhari to the effect that some Nigerians were giving the country a bad image by engaging in nefarious activities around the world.

While condemning the president’s comments, Mr. Bruce wrote on his twitter page that “Your own minister spent ₦80 million on a one day dinner, yet it is your citizens you accuse of being criminals #IAmANigerianNotACriminal”.

The tweet was apparently referring to Amaechi whose administration was accused of spending N80 million to organise a dinner for Nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka. Amaechi quickly fired back at Bruce, who he accused of being a coward.

“A coward, who is not bold enough to name the minister that he alleged criminally spent N80M on dinner is unfit to sit in our senate chambers,” he said.

In another response, Bruce mocked Amaechi over the recent Supreme Court judgment that upheld the election of Nyesom Wike as governor.

“When you have been Wike’d, you become wicked! But you will always be my beloved brother, no matter how much you transfer the anger on me”, he said.

The Transport Minister reacted by accusing the Bayelsa Senator of only finding his voice on twitter while he is hardly seen contributing to debates in the Senate.

“I will not respond to innuendos. Be courageous, name the minister. We know you talk here & do ‘siddon’ look where you are elected to talk,” he said.

  1. Ben Murray Bruce never make any condemnation speech when GEJ turned this country upside down but now he has suddenly found his voice, Nigerians know when a real criticism is being dole out to the government rather than critics that doesn’t make an impact. Good bless Nigeria

  2. Wonder shall never end…. who’s saint among them, pls help me to ask them…. anyway this is CHANGE moment for our economy, we the nation begs our leader to get it right… let put ur past aside… for better Nation

  3. Whether he names Amaechi or not, the fact is that 80million for a dinner is irresponsible. Even with the current rate of 400:1, we are looking at £200k.
Meanwhile, our president is busy scouting for ‘stolen’ money without sorting out issues therefore standstilling the whole country.

  4. Am still wondering why people can no longer stand it when this government is critised. Is it no longer a tool of check and focus for leadership. I think we should all look at the point been made and not who made it and what he did long ago. I want to believe Buhari in not perfect and so should be told when needed.

  5. B4 you point fingers at anyone, make sure that the four other fingers are not pointing at you. How clean is Mr, Bruce himself….?
