Abducted Ese Oruru, 14, finally gains freedom through IG Police

Ese Oruru, Abducted 14-year-old who was forcibly taken from her home in Opolo, Bayelsa State, to Kano and married off six months ago has been released.

It was learnt that she was freed upon the intervention of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, on Monday.

Arase had earlier in the day claimed that he could not secure Oruru’s release without the help of the Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, as he was said to be away on lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia.

However, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce representing Bayelsa East had threatened to report the IGP to the United Nations if he failed to immediately secure the abducted teenager’s release.

He also got in touch with Sanusi and demanded the immediate release of the girl, who wqs abducted in August 2015 by one Yunusa.

Based on pressure from Nigerians, Sanusi then directed the Kano State Sharia Commission to secure Oruru’s release.

  1. This is the height of insanity. Police IG had to seek permission of the Emir to release a girl that was kidnapped? This same Emir dethroned a community leader within his jurisdiction; for intimidating members of his community with his position, but indirectly supports this act of abduction.
Is it that there are parallel and contradicting laws, in our land? We need to wake up; our VIP’s should deviate from making our country, an object of mockery.

  2. Crazy things happens in Nigeria, I am very happen that we have somebody like Senator Ben Bruce to challenge the IG and the Emir!
    Welcome home Ese Oruru

  3. @Bolaji, thanks for shedding light into this controvercial issue which had been blown out of proportion bcos we like to sensationalize news in this part of the world & as negative news make news

  4. We do not really know or get the facts about how and why she was taken away from her parents. Now that she is finally released, she should be invited by any of the print media so that everyone can get the factual picture of what really happened. Let us not come to a conclusion yet.
