According to reports, authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has debunked social media report of epidemic of a strange disease in the institution.
Conducting journalists round the University Health Centre yesterday evening, the University Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olanrewaju described the report as unfounded.
He said the sickness was malaria fever caused by the climate change and was not peculiar to OAU alone.
He however urged members of the public to ignore the social media report that over 150 students had been admitted.
Also speaking, the Director of the Health Centre, Dr Irinoye Adedayo Ishola, said there is no outbreak of any infection.
He said “All we have is malaria endemic. The anxiety of examination coupled with poor nutrition caused the breakdown by some students.
“Climate change is another cause because the heat is much and it affects the body”.
He said the school would have cried out if they have perceived a strange disease. Although some students were brought to the health centre when journalists visited the health centre, they were treated and discharged almost immediately.
