It was gatheredthat, President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the Ministry of Women Affairs to quickly identify critical issues militating against the well-being and progress of Nigerian women.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, disclosed this in a statement yesterday.
The presidential spokesman said the directive was with a view to “rapidly” devising adequate plans, programmes and strategies to address those issues.
He said Buhari felicitated with all Nigerian women as they joined the rest of the world in celebrating the International Women’s Day “set aside by the global community to encourage and celebrate women’s social, cultural, economic and political achievements”.
Shehu said the president reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the promotion of women’s rights and their well-being in all the geo-political zones of Nigeria.
According to him, Buhari notes that the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day, “Pledge for Parity” is consistent with the pledge by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to remove all impediments to the realisation of equality by Nigerian women.
Shehu also stated that the president assured Nigerian women them that his administration would continue to do all within its powers to fulfil that pledge.
The presidential aide said his principal wished all Nigerian women a happy International Women’s Day.
