Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday reportedly invaded the Rumuche community, in the Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, killing a 23-year-old man, identified only as Akor.
The incident happened in the victim father’s compound at about 10pm, Newsmen reports.
According to the report, the gunmen dragged Akor out of bed and shot him to death in the presence of his mother.
One Mr. Chizi Enyi, neighbor to the deceased, said “Akor’s mother rushed out from her room when the gunmen pounced on their victim, to plead on his son’s behalf.
“Her pleas, however, fell on deaf ears as the hoodlums shot her son in her presence,” Enyi disclosed.
An unidentified source alleged that the killing was cult-related, adding that the killers were cultists.
According to the source, trouble started when a political party bought a cow for Rumuche community.
The source said, “Akor failed to share the cow with other youths in the area.
“Some aggrieved cultists killed Akor for failing to produce the cow, which was alleged to be in his possession,” the source noted.
The Rivers State Police Command has, however, confirmed the killing.
The Public Relations Officer, PRO, Ahmad Mohammad said the Command received the information and investigations were ongoing.
