A senior staff of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has been recommended for demotion while five others were marked for transfer out of their present stations as punishment for their respective roles in the much-maligned 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Even as the dust raised by the examination, a qualifying test (UTME) into tertiary institutions across the country is yet to settle, the board has extended its dragnet to other staff members, whom it has reasons to believe compromised the exercise.
Three weeks ago, the Registrar/Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde had set up a panel to investigate 15 of its employees for allegedly compromising standards in the accreditation of examination centres, a development that exposed JAMB to criticisms over the resultant lack of adequate infrastructure.
The alleged fraudulent practice by some workers also prepared grounds for the technical hitches that characterised the second wholly Computer-Based Test (CBT).
The CBT system is an examination model of testing a large number of candidates who may not be geographically bound but are connected through a network of computers.
A reliable source in the board, who does not want his name in print, said that “one senior staff was recommended for demotion, while five others are to be transferred to new stations.
This is contained in the initial report presented to the registrar by the committee, which the registrar received last Thursday and endorsed; and immediately forwarded to the implementing department.
The source said because of the startling revelations, which came up in the course of the committee’s assignment, many more employees of the board are being investigated over their respective roles, which are deemed to have impacted negatively on the 2016 UTME.
