The Lagos state police command on Saturday confirmed an unfortunate incident of suspected domestic violence which left a banker, Mrs Ronke Shonde dead, and stated that it has begun a manhunt for Mr Lekan Shonde, the husband of the deceased who is suspected of beating her to death.
The sad incident fast becoming a major talking point on various social media platforms is said to have happened on Thursday night. The deceased who was a mother of two, was found dead in their apartment located on Tiemo Close, Off Awori Street, in Egbeda-Idimu area of Lagos State on Friday morning.
Mr Lekan Shonde was said to have fled with his wife’s mobile phones after the incident occurred. Punch quoted the Lagos police public relations officer, Dolapo Badmos, as stating that the matter had been transferred to the homicide department of criminal investigation in Yaba.
She said “marks of violence” were found on Ronke, suggesting that she was murdered in cold blood. Concerning the incident, Badmos said, “It was reported on Friday at about 8am by the landlady. She said at about 7am, she heard the screaming of Mrs Shonde’s children, who is one of her tenants, as they could not find the key to open their door from inside.
“When the door was forced open from outside, the lifeless body of the victim was found on the floor. “Police operatives visited the scene and the corpse was removed and deposited at the Isolo General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.”The police spokesperson explained that the deceased’s husband was at large and could not be reached on his telephone lines, which had been switched off. She however assured that the police was making efforts to “get him” and that the “command will certainly get to the root of the case.”
