The soldiers, who quickly cordoned the community, embarked on a house to house search.

“I am looking at the soldiers from a hideout in the bush, they are going from house to house. We know their tactics, so we ran away when they landed this morning at the jetty in the town, belonging to Tompolo’s father,” an informant said on phone at about 5.30am.

Tompolo has repeatedly denied having any link with the Niger Delta Avengers, but the military seemed to disbelieve him, and were chasing him.

It was gathered that Tompolo’s father was not in Kurutie when soldiers stormed the town this morning, but an over 70-year-old man, simply identified as Do Good Ikekama, is among the citizens allegedly molested and forced to take the soldiers around some homes.

Ijaw leader, Chief Godspower Gbenekama, confirmed the siege to Kurutie.

He said that despite‎ the appeal by the Gbaramatu monarch, HRM Oboro Gbaraun II, to the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brigadier General Paul Boroh (retd), that the soldiers should be professional in their duties, they were still harassing people.

However, the soldiers, according to reports, left the community at about 6.30am .

  1. Nigerians should advise the president that this is not the way to go.. ah. He is fanning the embers and feeding it with dry wood into a full blown flame… insurgency thrives on maltreatment and intimidation.. these men have a just cause and they are determined to fight.. I pity soldiers who will start losing their lives.. they are not even well armed

  2. This is sufficient aggression for Tompolo to join forces with NDA. The earlier he takes a definitive stand, the perfect the response to the fulani soldiers.

  3. I wonder why the same intimidation hasn’t been used against boko haram infested region knowing full well that their sponsors live within and known.

    • okay is that what you think? please go and ask people from. even dem no spare small pikin. I pity people. go ask what nigeria army did in Sierra Leone with heart eating rebels.

  4. I have said it before that Tompolo and NDA will cause problems for their people whom they believe to be protecting.

  5. Tompolo must respect Nigeria’s law by obeying a court’s order and appearing in the court to defend himself against the corruption charge levelled against him
He should man up and stop behaving like a coward
The avengers on their part will only end up destroying themselves and causing so much pain to their own people
    Time will tell

  6. Those who think the soldiers had gone too far are not being reasonable, the moment any militant group, under whatever disguise killed a military personnel, they and their communities should be prepared for war with the military,it’s a pity that a lot of people from this region, can’t still see clearly,I wonder how they reason, some elements are destroying your region in the name of agitation, and they see this as a struggle, open your sense for once and tell me,how the struggles by the likes of. Tompolo,Asari Dokubo and others benefit any of you, apart from the fact that, they enriched themselves thru various contracts from Jonathan, tell me one single development their so called struggle brought to your region, even when your son was the president for six years, and what your own son failed to doin six years, you want Buhari to do in one year.
