The lawmakers alleged the action was without a valid court order.

In a statement issued yesterday and signed on behalf of the caucus by Senate Deputy Minority Whip, Senator Biodun Olujimi, in Abuja, the lawmakers described the freezing of the governor’s account as illegal and an affront to the 1999 Constitution “It is trite that the condition precedent to be fulfilled by the EFCC, to fully exercise its powers as enshrined in section 34(1) of the EFCC Act, with effect to the freezing order on banks and other financial Institutions, was not met. Ditto the fact that, for the court to make such an order, there must be papers (court process) filed in court and signed by a judge….”

Meanwhile, former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore has vowed to approach the court over the freezing of his bank account by the EFCC. “I shall ask the court to compel them (EFCC) to unfreeze such account because I am neither on trial nor found guilty,” he said in a statement yesterday.

EFCC alleged Omisore collected N1.3 billion from the office of the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd), last year, to work for the victory of PDP in the presidential election.

  1. Only in Nigeria will laws be openly abused by the bodies tasked with keeping them….All serving and past governors should be investigated without fear or favour since the immunity clause no longer applies to one governor..Individuals should not be singled out for being vocal…
