Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho tells fans they needs to love Marouane Fellaini

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has told fans they’re going to have learn to love Marouane Fellaini – if he keeps up his good performances.

The lanky Belgian has been widely criticised since arriving at Old Trafford, but was still picked to start the Portuguese’s first Premier League match in charge.

‘With Fellaini I always have the feeling that he was not loved by the general Red people,’ said Mourinho.

‘But if he plays like he’s playing now, they have to love him because he’s being so important for us.’

Fellaini stats v Bournemouth

Pass success: 99%

Tackles won: 5

Clearances: 4

Blocks: 3

Aerial duels won: 3

This could be a sign that the midfielder is set for a larger first team role under the 53-year-old – despite the recent signing of Paul Pogba for a huge £89 million.

He was certainly impressive on Sunday, proving to be a key part of the Red Devils’ midfield as they went on to beat Bournemouth 3-1 on the opening weekend.
