The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) yesterday vowed to implement their agenda if the Federal Government fails to restructure the country for the benefit of all Nigerians.
The group, in a statement signed by its spokesman Mudoch Agbinibo, also threatened to unleash mayhem on oil pipelines in the Niger Delta if President Muhammadu Buhari further deploys the military to attack the oil bearing communities.
The statement reads: “Our prayer for Buhari and the Northern hypocrite (Northern Governors) is that oil should be found in commercial quantity in the North, so they can let the Niger Delta go.
“The Buhari led government has failed Nigerians with their misdirected policies that have divided the country, as such nobody wants to be part of that failed state, not even the Niger Delta. The October 1st declaration of independence is still sacrosanct.”
The group also warned individual or group against using their platform to defraud unsuspecting members of the public, maintaining that “the day of reckoning is close.”
The warning may not be unconnected with the claim by Mr. Ballantyne Agiri, the acclaimed Dialogue Group spokesman, who said the Avengers had resolved to negotiate with the Federal Government.
Agiri had in a signed statement in Abuja on Wednesday this week said the Avengers were determined to lay down arms and embrace peace after the dialogue, maintaining that the results of the dialogue would yield lasting peace, equity, justice and harmony among all ethnic nationalities in Nigeria.
“The body has collectively and willingly agreed to heed the clarion call of eminent Nigerians and international community to dialogue with the Federal Government,” Agiri stated.
He urged Nigerians and the international community to follow the event and watch out which side would default in terms of abiding by the rules and spirit of the dialogue.
“The Federal Government should from the inception of the dialogue rule out from the agenda any monthly monetary inducement or stipend for the NDA.
“The Federal Government should be ready for structural changes that should be human and development oriented”
